Ashland High School has been notified that it has received a Bronze Award from the US News & World Report America's Best High Schools.
US News & World Report recently released a list of the best high schools in America after a study of nearly 19,000 schools in 40 states. The list was compiled based on three criteria: overall academic proficiency, at-risk student academic proficiency and the use of Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
Ashland High School scored very highly in the first two categories, however being a small school with very limited staff, AHS is not able to offer AP courses.
Ashland High School received the Bronze Award, which is the highest award possible for a school without AP offerings.
Fewer than 2000 of the nation's 19,000 high schools in the study qualified for an award. Other area schools receiving the Bronze Award include the high schools at Greensburg, Minneola, Kiowa, Sublette, and Pratt (Skyline).
According to Ashland High principal Bill Day. "This is just one more example of the quality of education in Ashland. It is fun to sit back and watch the positive results of so much of the students' and teachers' hard work pay off in so many ways."
Superintendent of Schools Jerry Cullen, added, "Awards like this are indicative of a quality program not just at the high school, but at the elementary school as well, because if the students are not well prepared for secondary school, then these secondary recognition's would not be possible. Once again, it just shows what a great group of kids with excellent teachers and a supportive community can accomplish."
