Ashland JV Tennis Takes Second at Cimarron
Both AHS JV singles entries won their divisions undefeated at Cimarron on September 6, leading the team to a second-place finish in the six-team meet.
Anna Crafton played in the #1 singles position, after missing the previous week due to illness. Anna won all three of her matches for first place. Her wins were against Lanae Love of Dodge City 6-1, Remington Grasz of Kiowa County 6-3, and Allison Doll of Garden City 7-6 (7-4).
Kelsey Marx, playing as the #2 singles entry also went undefeated by beating Emma Gregg of Dodge City 6-2, Charity Schmidt of Kiowa County 6-1, and Fatima Hernandez of Garden City 7-6 (7-3).
In the #1 doubles position, Faith Tonne and Maddi Guerra went 2-1, taking third place. Their wins were against Jennifer Vielmas and Joyce Ngo of Dodge City 6-3 and Rachel Lurwick and Fallon Haynes of Meade 6-0, while their only loss was to Rachel Schmidt and Laina McMurray of Kiowa County 6-7 (4-7).
The #2 doubles team of Iva Foster and Emily Sprunger went 2-1, taking second place. They beat Sandra Romero and Jennifer Arias of Dodge City 6-1 and Lakin Titus and Patty Torress of Kowa County 7-5. Their lone loss in the finals was to Hailey Robinson and Loan Trinh of Garden City 4-6.
Final team scores: Garden City - 32, Ashland - 29, and Kiowa County - 25. Meade, Cimarron, and Dodge City finished in 4th, 5th, and 6th.
