School Records Fall in 2012
May 07, 2012
Three Ashland track & field records have fallen so far this season.
AHS freshman Shelby Luerman set the new 200 meter dash record on May 4 at Bucklin's Red Aces Relays with a time of 26.78 in the prelims. That makes her official mark 26.8 eclipsing Joanna Harden's 26.9 set in 2004.
AJH eighth graders Kole Konrade and CJ Bonilla broke long-standing field event records as well.
Kole high jumped 5'11" at Greensburg on April 26. That jump broke the Ryan Boman record of 5'10" set in 1987. Kole had previously tied the record at 5'10" two weeks earlier.
CJ shattered the shot put record by adding nearly 5 feet to it this year. The previous record was held by Michael Gillaspie and was set in 2001 at 43'7". CJ added nearly two feet to the record three weeks ago, but then broke his own record by tossing the shot 48'5-1/4" at the Ashland Invitational on May 3.
All three athletes have the chance to improve on their marks. The junior high team competes at the SPIAA league meet on May 10 at Bucklin. Shelby has three chances to improve on her mark. The SPIAA high school meet is May 11 at Minneola. Regional is May 18 at Montezuma and State is May 25 & 26 at Wichita.
